Democratic presidential contender Elizabeth Warren is standing by a claim that she lost a teaching job in 1971 when she was 22 and six months pregnant, while resurfaced documents allege otherwise.

Warren was questioned about her story in an interview with CBS News after a video from 2007 resurfaced and shows her telling the same story without adding that she was “shown the door” for being pregnant.

In the 2007 interview, Warren said she decided that working was not going to “work out” for her and had decided to have the baby and “stayed home for a couple of years.”

Yet on the campaign trail, the Massachusetts senator and 2020 frontrunner has claimed multiple times that she was not given the job promised to her at Riverdale Elementary School in New Jersey, where she had already worked for one year, because she was pregnant.

“By the end of the first year, I was visibly pregnant, and the principal did what principals did in those days. Wish me luck and hire someone else for the job,” Warren said at a campaign event last week.

But in the CBS interview this week, Warren doubled down.

“All I know is I was 22 years old, I was 6 months pregnant, and the job that I had been promised for the next year was going to someone else. The principal said they were going to hire someone else for my job,” she said.

“When someone calls you in and says the job that you've been hired for the next year is no longer yours, ‘We're giving it to someone else,’ I think that's being shown the door,” she added.

She told CBS that the different phrasing was a result of her deciding to “open up” more about events from her past since becoming a public figure when she was elected to the US Senate in 2012.

But documents obtained by the Washington Free Beacon show that Warren indeed resigned from the job. Meeting minutes show that Warren's contract was renewed for a second year in April 1971 and that the Riverdale Board of Education accepted her resignation “with regret” in June that year.

The CBS report also noted that stories from the local Paterson News reported that Warren had left her role “to raise a family.”

Viewers tore into TV comedian Ellen DeGeneres after she offered a lukewarm can't we all just get along’ explanation for laughing it up with former president and regime-change aficionado George W. Bush at a football game.

Assuming the fans' initial rage had to do with “a gay Hollywood liberal sitting next to a conservative Republican president” at a Dallas Cowboys football game over the weekend, DeGeneres stressed that just because her political views didn't align with the president who started two long and bloody wars, didn't mean they couldn't be friends.

Trump says he’ll leave very strong intelligence’ in Afghanistan, invokes Bush rationale for war

I'm friends with George Bush. In fact, I'm friends with a lot of people who don't share the same beliefs that I have,” she said on her show on Tuesday, comparing her disagreements with Bush to disagreeing with her “friends who wear fur.”

We're all different and I think we've forgotten that it's OK that we're all different,” she continued earnestly, imploring her viewers to “be kind” to those unlike themselves.

Social media users quickly reminded her that it wasn't Bush’s political opinions they took issue with, but his actions while in office.

The arguments were that Bush wasn't exactly a fan of the LGBT community. “He would lock you and Portia in separate cages if you weren't both rich,” pointed out one user, referring to the actress DeGeneres married in 2008, while another mentioned he had campaigned against gay marriage.

Others reasoned that when one moves in DeGeneres' elite circles, it's impossible to avoid running into a few war criminals - or suggested that part of her job was making such "monsters" palatable to the general population.

When some of Ellen's fellow TV personalities stepped in to back her up, they, too, got shredded.

DeGeneres isn't the only liberal to embrace Bush in his later years, helping him reinvent himself from a wildly unpopular commander-in-chief to a simple old man painting pictures of cats and world leaders. President Barack Obama and his aides also discovered a fondness for his predecessor after Trump came into the White House.

A passenger train that arrived to Moscow from Germany was evacuated and inspected for elevated levels of radiation after causing alarm on the border crossing with Belarus. Officials said those on board were not in danger, however.

One of the cars in the train, which originated in Berlin, is said to have registered increased levels of background radiation during an inspection on the Belarus-Russia border. Upon arrival at Moscow’s central Belorussky station on Tuesday evening, the entire train was evacuated, and the platform was sealed off by the police.

Specialists from the government watchdog Rospotrebnadzor, nuclear waste management company Radon, and city services personnel were all involved in the inspection. A mobile laboratory, which allows for rapid on-site analysis of samples, has also been deployed.

An all-clear was eventually given, however.

“According to the results of the measurements, there was no danger to the  health of passengers on board this train,” the Emergencies Ministry (EMERCOM) press service told reporters.

Heightened radiation levels were recorded in one of the compartments and in the toilet – three and seven microsieverts, respectively. The average dental x-ray is from five to ten, by comparison.

The car was reportedly used by cancer patients traveling to Germany for treatment, and was empty on the return trip. It is possible that radioactive substances used in therapy may have been improperly handled on board during the outgoing trip and left lingering traces of radiation.

Some 19 cars have been torched in the northern Stockholm suburb of Marsta, while a small explosive device went off near a local barber shop. No suspects have been detained so far.

The early hours of Monday turned out to be very restless for the residents of the area, as they were woken up by at least two loud bangs which triggered a massive police and firefighter response.

It turned out an explosive device went off in front of a barber shop, heavily damaging its entrance, while cars were set alight in at least three locations across the neighborhood. Some 19 vehicles were destroyed by fire, according to local media.

Footage from the scene shows the smashed up barber shop, as well as multiple cars ablaze.

So far, police have not established a link between the car fires and the explosion, treating them as separate incidents. Officers have been going door-to-door questioning residents but no suspects have been apprehended yet.

Arson attacks on cars have plagued Sweden for a few years now, happening in sprees and making international headlines.

Such incidents have repeatedly occurred in Stockholm and its suburbs, as well as other major cities, namely Malmo and Gothenburg.

The latter saw a particularly ‘hot’ August in 2018 when dozens of cars as well as several buildings were torched in a series of arson attacks.

The alarming growth of crime has resulted in certain neighborhoods of major cities, including Stockholm and Malmo, becoming virtual “no-go” zones. Authorities say high crime and poverty rates created these breeding grounds for gang violence and extremism.

Swedish football icon Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been honored with a bronze statue which he unveiled himself in his hometown of Malmo, Sweden.

The almost three-meter tall bronze effigy created by the Swedish artist Peter Linde was placed outside the stadium of Malmo FF, the club where Ibrahimovic’s professional career began.

The 38-year-old, who is currently playing for LA Galaxy in the MLS, arrived in Sweden to take part in the unveiling ceremony organized by the Swedish Football Association.

Sweden’s all-time record goal scorer was displayed half-naked and barefooted with his arms raised high in the air, copying his signature goal celebration pose.

When you come to New York you have the Statue of Liberty, when you come to Sweden you have the Statue of Zlatan,” Ibrahimovic said during the ceremony which was attended by hundreds of football fans.

The statue has become an object of intense discussion on social media, with many fans asking why the player was not wearing a T-shirt and football boots.

"Why is he barefoot and in shorts?" one person asked.

"He looks like Jesus," another commentator added.

"Love this statue, because it looks like he is getting ready to jump in his pool," one more user added.

Ibrahimovic has made 116 appearances for Sweden at international level, scoring 62 goals for his home country.

And now his legacy will live on in Malmo via the huge statue celebrating his footballing successes.

A mysterious inscription etched onto a 1,500-year-old Greek tablet has finally been deciphered to reveal a deviously-detailed curse urging demons to act against a dancer called Manna.’

The lead tablet, found by Italian archaeologists several decades ago in Israel, has only recently been deciphered thanks to modern technology which gave researchers an edge in reading the scrawl. The note calls on several gods and demons to hurt Manna and afflict his movements, urging them to: “Bind down the eyes, the hands, the feet.”

The tablet В© Attilio Mastrocinque

Attilio Mastrocinque, professor of Roman history at the University of Verona, was the first to crack the inscription, and says the subject of the curse was probably a famous artist. The twin lures of fame and reputation likely prompted their rival to turn to the gods for divine intervention in scuppering Manna’s performance.

A method called ‘Reflectance Transformation Imaging’ created an enhanced image of the tablet surface, finally allowed experts to read and research the tablet.

When the 110-line curse was inscribed on the tablet, the Byzantine Empire controlled the area, and it’s possible that the writer and the dancer named in the curse hailed from rival, even warring, factions.

“This [tablet] along with many others issued in the late imperial period and in the early Middle Ages, confirms that the Christianization of the Roman Empire did not stop the maleficent magical arts,” according to Mastrocinque, as cited by LiveScience. “On the contrary, these increasingly spread and became more sophisticated.”

Victoria’s Secret is finally embracing the growing body positivity’ movement and hiring its first size-14 model. The decision is ostensibly all about “self-love” and “championing individuality” — but is it really just a PR stunt?

The lingerie brand, famous for its super-skinny models and a long-held commitment to selling “fantasy” rather than reality, hired Ali Tate Cutler as part of a collaboration with UK lingerie company Bluebella. VS didn’t make note of Cutler’s size, however, and fans learned about it from her own Instagram, where she called it a “great step in the right direction for bodies.”

This is exactly the kind of move that usually wins companies quick praise, but with its reputation (and bottom line) suffering due to a lack of diversity in its model and product line-ups, the decision to hire Cutler looks like a transparent attempt to grab back some of the market share it lost by steadfastly refusing to jump on the bandwagon sooner.

Is political correctness killing fashion? Designers are speaking up against the tyranny’ of the woke

Just weeks ago, the company went for another PR win and hired its first transgender model, Valentina Sampaio. The sudden shift from fantasy to reality coincided with the recent departure of longtime chief marketing officer Ed Razek, who took heat last year for saying the company should not hire “transsexuals” and that customers had essentially “no interest” in seeing plus-sized models. “We market to who we sell to, and we don’t market to the whole world,” Razek said.

Yet, with the 71-year-old Razek gone, the company seems to have decided that actually, they do want to market to the whole world — and that probably has more than a little to do with the fact that it has been losing money, rather than a sudden desire to embrace individuality and “self-love.”

The trouble for VS started as more body-positive brands like Aerie and ThirdLove started appearing on the scene, leading its US market share to drop from 33 percent to 24 percent between 2016 and 2018. Same-store sales were down by three percent in 2018.

Its once hugely popular teen-focused Pink line has also been suffering, apparently due to overly sexy ads which are not loved by parents. A survey of teen spending habits and favored clothing brands last year saw VS slip out of the top 10 ranking altogether. In worse news, it found itself on the list of top 10 brands teens don’t shop from a second time.

It may not just be the brand’s objection to political correctness that has caused its problems, however. In addition to being repeatedly condemned for failing to move with the times, VS has also been accused of letting the quality of its products slip.

Things began to look even more precarious when the infamous annual VS fashion show was cancelled this year after fewer people than ever tuned in to watch in 2018. The broadcast hit a record low of 3.3 million viewers, compared to five million the year before. In an internal memo, VS parent L Brands CEO Les Wexner said television was no longer “the right fit” for the company.

Shareholders have started to worry, too. Activist investor Barington Capital scolded VS in a letter last March for its “outdated” and even “tone deaf” image that had failed to align with women’s “evolving attitudes” toward beauty. Indeed, it turns out that most women want comfortable underwear and neutral colors and designs more than they want to imagine themselves in diamond-encrusted “fantasy bras.”

The question for Victoria’s Secret now is whether turned-off customers will be won over by its attempt to redeem itself, or will its latest efforts be seen as nothing more than sheer hypocrisy?

A mayor in southern Mexico deployed a novel idea to deal with a busy schedule: sending a life-sized cardboard cutout of himself to attend’ a public health event he couldn’t get to. Locals, though, were less than impressed.

Moisés Aguilar Torres, the mayor of the town of Pichucalco in Chiapas, told his staff to arrange for the cardboard stand-in to be created and brought to public events he can’t attend.

The cutout depicts the mayor, who was a registered nurse before turning to politics, dressed in a blue shirt, stepping forward with one hand raised in a fist.

According to local reports, the residents had been hoping to meet with the politician in person to discuss concerns around the completion of municipal projects and were stunned to instead be faced with a printed version of the man himself.

Photos from the event shared on social media show locals posing with the cutout, some looking decidedly unamused, while the online reactions to the stunt ranged from sharing the facepalm emoji to demanding a better explanation from the politician for such behavior.

At least one person thought it was actually quite a good idea “if you don’t want to go somewhere.”

It’s the first time such a device has been deployed by a politician in Chiapas, and the city council hasn’t determined yet if the cutout will be used in future events in lieu of the mayor’s attendance.

Dassault Aviation has delivered the first of 36 Rafale fighter jets ordered for the Indian Air Force (IAF) in 2016. India’s defense minister was quick to seize an opportunity to try out the new addition to the fleet.

Rajnath Singh led the Indian delegation to Mérignac, France, for the handover ceremony of the French-built warplane. The date coincides with the birthday of the IAF and falls just after a Hindu religious festival for worshiping tools and weapons, which gave the Indian official a chance to perform a good luck ritual for the jet.

The minister also tried out the jet, jumping in the second seat and letting the lead test pilot from Dassault take it for a short flight, local media reported.

The French producer used the opportunity to highlight the long record of military cooperation it has with the Asian powerhouse.

India purchased the French aircraft as part of New Delhi’s effort to diversify its fleet. India initially wanted to add as many as 126 new light fighter jets to its arsenal, but the ambitious plan had to be adjusted due to rising costs and budgetary considerations. The delivery of 36 Rafales is scheduled to be completed in 2022.

Russian and Turkish foreign ministers, Sergey Lavrov and Mevlut Cavusoglu, discussed by phone the situation in northeastern Syria, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

They discussed “in detail the process of the Syrian settlement paying special attention to the developments in the northeast of Syria,” the statement said.

In the call initiated by the Turkish side, the two senior diplomats also exchanged views on the situation in the Balkans, TASS reports.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on October 7 that the United States had begun to withdraw its troops from northeastern Syria where Ankara planned to establish a security zone.

0, the official campaign group that supports the UK leaving the EU, has caused uproar on social media, after tweeting an inflammatory meme of Germany’s Angela Merkel in relation to the ongoing Brexit crisis.

The group voiced their displeasure at reports Merkel warned British PM Boris Johnson in a phone call on Tuesday morning that a Brexit deal was “overwhelmingly unlikely” unless he agreed to Northern Ireland remaining in the EU’s customs union.

Overwhelmingly unlikely’: BoJo’s Brexit plan in tatters as Merkel reportedly dismisses chances of a deal responded on Twitter, slamming Merkel for her “reprehensible” demands, claiming such a move only underlined the “true colours of our supposed European allies.” The group attached a meme with a somewhat suggestive picture of the German chancellor and war-like language.

We didn't win two world wars to be pushed around by a Kraut.

The word Kraut is a derogatory term for a German, particularly a German soldier, commonly used by Britain and its allies during World War I and World War II.

The tweet has provoked anger online with some suggesting such rhetoric was “outrageous, offensive and inciteful.” David Lammy, Labour’s Tottenham pro-remain MP issued an apology to the EU, branding the pro-Brexit group’s tweet as “xenophobic bile.”

Johnson and Merkel discussed the intractable Brexit issue, with the UK PM stressing that if this is the EU’s new established position, then a deal is “essentially impossible not just now but ever,” according to a Number 10 source.

Last week, the UK government unveiled its plans for a renegotiated Brexit deal, with Johnson insisting that they presented a “very reasonable offer.” Under the new proposals it would see the Irish backstop replaced with electronic and a “number of physical” customs checks on the island of Ireland.

Washington has added China’s top artificial intelligence startups to its blacklist, citing Beijing’s mistreatment of Muslim minorities. The move comes ahead of high-level trade talks in Washington on October 10.

The new measures target eight tech companies, including three of China's biggest AI startups — SenseTime, Megvii, and Yitu. All three are well-known for their work in facial recognition software. Video surveillance firm Hikvision, with a market value of about $42 billion, is also on the list, as well as speech recognition firm iFlytek Co, surveillance equipment maker Zhejiang Dahua Technology and a digital forensics and cybersecurity company Meiya Pico. Last but not least is Yixin Science and Technology, which, according to Bloomberg, provides big data analytics to China's police force. Apart from these tech firms, 20 Chinese public security bureaus have also been blacklisted.

Countries resisting US pressure to ban Huawei’s 5G equipment

All the 28 “entities” are now prohibited from purchasing technical parts from US companies without applying for Washington’s official approval, which resembles the measure introduced by the US government earlier this year to limit cooperation of American firms with Huawei Technologies. In August, the US banned federal purchases of telecommunications equipment from Huawei along with four other Chinese companies, claiming they posed a threat to US national security interests as spies of the Chinese communist party. Huawei has repeatedly denied the allegations and has filed a lawsuit against the US government's restrictions.

The US authorities justified its move by claiming that the “entities” blacklisted “have been implicated in human rights violations and abuses in the implementation of China's campaign of repression, mass arbitrary detention, and high-technology surveillance against Uighurs, Kazakhs, and other members of Muslim minority groups.

The US government and Department of Commerce cannot and will not tolerate the brutal suppression of ethnic minorities within China,” Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross has said, commenting on the newly introduced measures.

The US move comes only two days ahead of high-level trade talks regarding the ongoing trade and tariff war with China, making it ever harder to predict the outcome of these talks.

US gymnastics star Simone Biles delivered a superb performance in the women’s team final in Stuttgart, Germany, leading Team USA to its fifth consecutive world title.

The 22-year-old American showcased insane difficulty along with solid execution to post the highest scores on three out of four apparatuses, establishing herself as the favorite to take the all-around gold in Stuttgart.

The most decorated gymnast in US history, who is eying a record-breaking fourth all-around title, wowed the German crowd with her signature double-double dismount on a beam and insane triple-double combo on floor.

Biles made a significant contribution to her team’s world triumph, adding unbelievable scores to the team’s results, including 15.400 for her vault, which was the highest score of the day.

Team USA led by Biles took gold in the women’s final posting 172,330 points.
Russia finished second, almost six points behind their American counterparts, and Italy finished third with 164,796 points.

Conor McGrgeor commemorated one year since his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov with an insult-laden tweet to the UFC champ hinting at a Moscow rematch. But his online jibes are futile given that the Russian holds all the aces.

Twelve seems to be Conor Mcgregor's favorite number. It's his local Dublin postal district, which gave rise to half of the name of his 'Proper Twelve' whiskey brand. And now the former double UFC champ has gone out of his way to celebrate 12 months since his loss to Khabib.

A whole year ago the world watched as McGregor and Khabib met in Las Vegas to contest the most-watched MMA contest in history when the Dagestan Eagle submitted McGregor in four rounds to defend his UFC belt.

To mark the occasion a year later, ‘The Notorious’ posted a video of the moment Khabib sent him to the canvas with a thunderous overhand right, which forced the Dublin man to scramble back to his feet and continue the action.

“F*ck an 8 count let’s dance baby,” McGregor captioned the clip, with the hashtags '1 year ago' and the all-important 'Moscow’, hinting at that rematch in the Russian capital, as well as #shitinthebus #runningandshittingatthesametime, in reference to McGregor’s attack on a UFC bus carrying Khabib in Brooklyn in 2018.

In the intervening year since the fight, McGregor’s star has waned considerably from being once perhaps the most recognizable face in combat sports, and that position has been overtaken by Khabib, who has also risen to become one of the most talked about and respected athletes in the world.

McGrgeor’s jibes, like his famed and once-razor-sharp left hand, have lost some sting as his stock has plummeted since the loss and outside-of-the-octagon incidents taking effect on the 31-year-old’s progress, and with that comes a hefty loss of bargaining power.

The momentum has taken a huge swing in the favor of Makhachkala-based Khabib, with the champion now able to decide which deserving champ gets a shot at his title, with McGregor, who hasn’t fought since the loss, relegated to provoking Khabib online into giving him a rematch.

McGregor can talk all he wants but his position still remains firmly on the outside of proceedings, and his comments are apparently taking zero toll on the UFC champion, who has stoically rebuffed any talk of McGregor being in his immediate thoughts.

'Stop hitting old people and get in line': Khabib tells Conor McGregor what he needs to do to earn rematch (VIDEO)

At the recent Synergy Global Forum in St. Petersburg, Russia, Khabib reiterated his frosty relationship with McGrgeor had not thawed and the Irishman should instead get in line for a title shot, presumably behind more-deserving fighters such as Tony Ferguson.

"I'm not ready to shake his hand right now," he said. "When a person continues to behave this way, it means that it's his nature. We saw that he recently hit a 70-year-old man. It shows a lack of morality and manners. So I'm not ready to shake his hand until he realizes something."

“Conor has to come back (and) stop hitting old people. He is a professional fighter. He should come back, win, earn his place and get in line."

'If McGregor wants it, Moscow is waiting': Khabib's father says UFC champion wants rematch on Russian soil in 2020

Nevertheless, there has been interest quietly brewing in a return between the two in Moscow. Khabib’s father and trainer Abdulmanap “if McGregor wants it, Moscow is waiting,” to which McGregor coach John Kavanagh replied he would “love to visit Moscow”, confirming senior figures in both camps are at least interested in the idea.

McGregor has put a lot of hours into his business endeavours, including his own brand whiskey, but even that has lead to its own setbacks; McGregor is set to be hauled in front of a Dublin court for striking a senior citizen in a city center pub after he refused a shot of his 'Proper Twelve' liquor.

The incident led to a further fall from grace for McGregor, with fans growing tired of his extracurricular outings holding up his fight career. Such incidents may have added to his treasured notoriety in his heydey, but fans are now losing patience.

READ MORE: 'I'd love to visit Moscow': McGregor coach John Kavanagh up for Khabib rematch in Russian capital

For all his whimsical charms as a self-promoter and showman, McGregor seems to have forgotten altogether his poker face since his life on the periphery of the UFC power table began. It is clear for all to see that McGregor is resigned to being the joker of the pack on social media, his needling has become his card trick, while Khabib still holds all the aces going forward.

Once able to make the UFC would dance to his tune, McGregor is now playing second fiddle to Khabib, with performances in the fight arena carrying more weight than McGregor's uncanny ability to generate hype.

It's a case of the hunter becoming the hunted, and McGregor should take heed of Khabib's words and drop the shots of whiskey and social media to concentrate on a shot at the title, only this time he will have to get in line like everybody else.

Italian Fabio Fognini fired past a returning Andy Murray at the Shaghai Masters round of 32 on Tuesday after an intense match that saw the two exchange heated words, with the Brit at one point telling Fognini to "shut up!"

Fognini squeezed past Murray in three sets 7-6, 2-6, 7-6 on a tie break in the deciding set to book his place in the last 16, but the win was ladened with bad tempered incidents in the match.

During a changeover int he deciding set, Murray and Fognini had a coming together near the net, in which Murray took exception to his opponent bellowing "don't look at me" during a point.

Murray snapped "you say the same to everyone" and sat down, before he decided to over and remonstrate.

While relaying his frustrations to the chair umpire, Murray barked at the world number 12 "shut up!" before taking a seat and being told the matter was under control.

The Brit, 32, was playing in his sixth singles tournament since having a hip resurfacing operation in January, and was twice in position to serve out for the match in the decider.
